Red Morning Rise

Red Morning Rise

"For me, music is a thirst that can't be quenched - a life-long passion. Growing up, my older brother Scott played records by Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery. As a teenager, I found a musical hero in Miles Davis. At 22, I began playing with latin bands in New York City and fell in love with Brazilian music when I heard an album by the great samba singer Clara Nunes. Later I discovered artists like Suba and Thievery Corporation, mixing organic sounds and rhythms of the world with electronic textures and intoxicating grooves. The music you will hear on my new CD, Red Morning Rise, is a culmination of many years as a musician and lover of all music that connects with my mind and soul. Peace." -- Chris Thompson, May 7, 2005 Chris Thompson is a professional trumpet player who has been playing in the latin music scene of New York since 1980. He continues to play with notable salsa artists including Grammy winner Lalo Rodriguez, Adalberto Santiago and Tony Vega. He has also toured with the hit Broadway show, Chicago, and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. What they're saying about Chris Thompson and Red Morning Rise... "Trumpeter Chris Thompson surrounds the satin-smooth tone of his horn with an array of contemporary musical sounds...". "...Thompson lets his melodies flow with open horn and a free spirit that respects lyric responsibility". --Jim Santella - All About Jazz (Sep 30, 2005) "...really cool electric groove and great trumpet playing." --Russ Davis, XM Satellite Radio Channel 72 'Beyond Jazz' (March 26, 2006 as Red Morning Rise was featured on XM 72's "Premier Sunday" broadcast) "Chris Thompson is definitely on the right track." - Charles Tolliver, Legendary Jazz Trumpet Player (Sep 28, 2005) "It's fantastic! and made me surprised because Chris composed and played all tunes by himself, SUPERB!!! talented trumpet player inspired by Miles Davis and Clara Nunes" --Yasuhiro "Fuji" Fujioka - Record Collector (Japan) (Oct 15, 2005) "This is a first-class collection of some of the finest, hard-to-categorize music I've heard... If I had to describe the disc to someone else, I'd call it a groove-heavy bit of world-informed Jazz, on top of well-integrated bed of electronica. But that's way too many syllables... Let's just called it sublime Trumpet-tronics... ". --Dr. Strangedub (Michael Rose) - KFAI-FM 90.3 Minneapolis (Mar 20, 2006)
