Musician and philanthropist Peter Buffett, R&B/pop star Akon, and renowned global organization UNICEF have collaborated in an effort towards escalating international awareness of human trafficking and bringing an end to the issue. Peter Buffett was commissioned by the United Nations to write a song for a special event taking place on the ‘International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade’, which is observed worldwide on March 25th. Akon, who has previously collaborated with Peter, loaned his voice on the issue-inspired track “Blood Into Gold”. Peter will donate all proceeds from the sale of the single to UNICEF, as a platform to raise additional funds for the cause. With trafficking in human beings remaining a major problem today, Peter’s hope is that this new single will become a powerful vehicle in helping the world to remember the legacy of slavery and committing themselves to ending it. He is the creative mind behind many of the old school MTV logo bumpers of the ‘80s, and the climactic crescendos in the memorable “Fire Dance” scene in 1990’s Oscar winning film Dances With Wolves. While Peter has remained behind the scenes as a composer of jingles, movie soundtracks, and atmospheric sound collections for the grand majority if his career, he began experimenting with vocals and a more eclectic pop/rock sound in recent years.
