Vision
After its establishment in 2000 by Guido de Jongh (guitar) and Frank Schilperoort (drums) Devious played numerous crushing gigs internationally. Having released their eponymous EP in 2002, the band signed to Spitzenburg Records and established itself as one of the most promising acts originating from The Netherlands. Subsequently, the year 2003 marked the release of their first full-length album ‘Acts of Rage’. Upon its release the band shared stages with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Vader, Darkane, Crowbar, Aborted, The Dillinger Escape Plan, God Dethroned, Malevolent Creation en Dying Fetus.
In 2006 Devious successfully toured Europe with Brazilian metal pioneers Krisiun. This tour, among several shorter ones, introduced the band to countries like Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovenia.
Devious’ second full-length ‘Domain’, introducing vocalist Coen Tabak, was released on February 1st 2007 by Deity Down Records. Besides 12 grooving death metal tracks, ‘Domain’ featured a professionally shot video of the song ‘Room 302’, directed by Robin van Belzen. The album received critical acclaim internationally by press and metal audiences alike.
With this release Devious proved itself to be a first class act in the extreme metal genre. On ‘Domain’ Devious combined modern death metal with the band's original thrash roots in a unique way, keeping the emphasis on groove and variation.
In July 2008 original vocalist Arnold Oude Middendorp returned to the fold, and re-introduced himself as Devious’ frontman at Zwarte Cross Fest (NL), where the band was lined up alongside the likes of Merauder, Exodus, Cynic, Moonspell and Obituary. Later in the year, out of hundreds of Dutch bands Devious was selected to enter the finals of the ‘Support Slayer: 15 minutes Of Pain’ contest which had been organized by leading national radio station 3FM and Mojo concerts. At the turn of the year, long time bassist Sven van Toorn was replaced with Daniël Centiago.
Devious started recording their third full-length ‘Vision’ in February 2009, capturing eight pulverizing brand new songs. Main songwriter and founding member Guido de Jongh assumed the role of producer along with Jochem Jacobs (Textures). Jochem then handled the record’s mixing and mastering process at Split Second Sound Studios in Amsterdam. Expectations ran high, yet the team succeeded in surpassing every single one of them. ‘Vision’ will turn out to be a crucial record in Devious’ career.
As of August 31st 2009 (world) and October 5th 2009 (UK/Eire) this new and exciting record will be available in stores through Deity Down Records. Several club shows and festivals appearances will follow before Devious’ December 2009 European tour in support of Entombed (Sweden) and Merauder (USA) kicks off.

The folks over at http://peacedogman.com know a thing or two about music. Below is a review, contributed by Cardona (http://www.peacedogman.com/staff). Used by kind permission. Read the review at its original location: http://www.peacedogman.com/reviews/111409dev.htm
DEVIOUS - "Vision", 2009 (Deity Down)
Another eye-opener unveiled.
Two years ago, we reviewed the album "Domain" from Dutch melodic/brutal death metal hybrid DEVIOUS. In short, it kicked serious ass. Combining deadly riffs with symphonic synth, a superb production and songwriting that often borderlines progressive, it was an album with more than enough to appeal to any fan of extreme metal. Two years later and with a new vocalist in the fold (not to mention a new logo), DEVIOUS returns with their third full-length, "Vision." Much to our delight, the string of high-quality output continues.
The main difference this time around, apart from the half-step uptuning, is the rumbling visceral growl of new frontman Arnold, who proves himself as fine a replacement as the band could have hoped for. Beyond that, this should be familiar ground for those already familiar with the previous album. The crisp, clear production is still present, as is the inspired songwriting. Album opener "Heritage of the Reckless" wastes no time in establishing what these guys are about, as majestic synth orchestration gradually gives way to more low speed picking, double bass and blast beats than should be allowed by the FDA. And those who have forgotten what it was like when IN FLAMES was listenable need look no further than "Respiration of Fear." Folks who want a tad less melody to their metal, though, will surely find either the superhuman speed of "Abide" or the head-bobbing groove of "Impulse Overload" to their liking. Finally, one listen to the atmospheric shredder "Disconnect" will have kids worldwide throwing their copies of "In Sorte Diaboli" in the trash.
The only real dilemma is this: It still doesn't seem like folks have caught on to how awesome DEVIOUS is. Meanwhile, we're still up to our eyeballs in piss-ant hoodie-wearing metalcore bands that wouldn't know what "extreme" was if it bit them in the scrotum. It just doesn't seem like there's any justice in the world. If these guys were able to tour the U.S., they could have the entire scene eating from the palm of their hands. If and when that happens, count on us to say that we told you so.
