The Majority Report

K-rino was born September 9,1970 in Houston, TX. Raised in an area of town called South Park, he began rapping when he was 13 years old, largely inspired by the early pioneers of Hip Hop such as GrandMaster Flash, Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow all the way up to Run-DMC, T-La-Rock and KRS-One. He built a strong reputation by battling rival rappers in the streets and clubs of Houston. In the early stages of his evolution as an artist, He entered and won many talent shows and performed in many nightclubs although he and his group members were underaged. In 1986, he approached his father about cutting a record and with the financial backing provided by his dad, he recorded and released his first single with his group \"Real Chill\" in 1987 entitled \'Rockin\' It\'. The group consisted of Preppy Jay, and G.T. and this was one of the first rap records to ever come from the city of Houston and the first to come from South Park, putting K-Rino and Real Chill in the Hip-Hop history books for all time. 1987 was also the year k-rino founded the rap organization the South Park Coalition which was a team of rappers from all over the hood and the city.most of the members consisted of m.c.s who at one time were rivals in the rap game. The S.P.C. brought those rappers together and formed an alliance between them.the turning point was a classic battle between k-rino and Jones high school legend ganksta nip which lasted for hours.the final outcome was ruled a draw and the two rappers became the best of friends afterwards.k-rino remained in \"real chill\" until 1988 when he was introduced to Dope-e, who was in a group called C.O.D.(creators of devastation). the musical and lyrical chemistry they had, motivated them to join forces and k-rino became a member of C.O.D.they began recording their first record in 1989 and in 1990,the meaning of the initials were changed to \"cummin\' out doggin\".the 4 song EP was a hood classic and helped to springboard the group into local and regional notoriety.although a full length album was in the works, production stopped and the project was never released.in the 2 years following, k-rino reverted back to his roots, street battling...in 1992 he got the urge to go back in the studio and once again called on his father for support.this time they formed their own label,\"electric city records\" and in 1993 they released k-rino\'s 1st solo album \"stories from the black book\".this album garnered him regional and worldwide acclaim based on the exposure he had gained off of appearing on ganksta nip and dope-e\'s solo records, which had been released on rap-a-lot records the previous year. in 1995 his 2nd CD \"danger zone hit the streets and once again it was a success.record sales were plentiful on both albums and labels contacted k-rino on several occasions.deals fell through many times because of the conflict for creative control.many labels were interested in k-rino but not his affiliation with the Nation of Islam and their teachings, which he rapped about in many of his songs.never being one to compromise his principles and beliefs for a deal, he continued on independently until 1997 when he signed with alexia records out of Washington, d.c. this was not a good marriage either because the same control issues which had haunted him earlier resurfaced once again.after a turmultuos stint with alexia, k-rino and his father L.V. picked up where they left off and went back to releasing CDs on electric city records. in 2000 \"No mercy\" hit the streets.after a fast start, the sales of the CD slowed and with the change of the content in rap lyrics at the time leaning more toward flash and materialism, k-rino became discouraged and tired of the ways of the industry and actually put the mic down in 2001 choosing to go the 9 to 5 route.he worked as a bailbondsman for nearly 2 years before he was laid off and decided to go back to the one thing he knew he did best and that was make music.in 2002,he teamed up with 9 other spc members and dropped a compilation CD called \'personal vendetta\'.this album lit a fire back under him mainly because it was a group effort and it had been almost 3 years since he last dropped an album.many spc fans were happy to see k-rino and the spc return because the releases weren\'t coming as often as they used to.by that time the s.p.c. was known worldwide and had an extensive fanbase that spanned the globe.k-rino immediately set his sights on doing another solo, but had no funds to even finance an album, so with a mixture of his ten percent of the money from the personal vendetta CD and portions of his unemployment checks, he dropped a \'best of\" CD entitled \"ten year run\".this was an easy way to generate revenue and overhead was low because all the songs on the CD were already recorded.he added 4 new cuts to help sales and since then he hasn\'t looked back.now running his own label, black book international, k-rino has tried to keep a consistent drop schedule of at least 2 CDs per year. by 2006 he had released 16 projects in his career and in 2007 he dropped \"book number 7\" his 17th release.in the time frame between 2002 and 2007 k-rino has featured on hundreds of CDs, helped numerous artists with everything from backing to simple advice, and has toured all over the world doing shows on 3 continents including Europe and Australia.his domestic and international fan base is growing with each passing day.he has worked with and has been given accalades by some of the best in the south and the industry in general.(the geto boys, scarface, willie dee, bushwick bill, DJ screw, devin the dude, z-ro, trae,t-la-rock, david banner, etc.over the years he has appeared in numerous magazines and publications(XXL,source mag ozone mag.,juice mag. in Germany, dazed and confused in the UK,and many more.he has worked with many international producers including wolftown records in the UK,keyza soze in Germany, to name a couple.k-rino\'s style and high level lyricism has placed him in the conversation with some of the best of all time.although he considers himself a true lyricist 1st and foremost, his most noted gift is his versatility and the ability to speak on MANY topics.his body of work can stand next to any rapper to ever bless the mic and his content can make the same claim.he has become one of the most consistent artists of all time and his fans say that he actually gets better with time. in 1992 he became a Muslim and a follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam and a lot of what he speaks on his CDs is derived from those teachings.he has been criticized and scrutinized over the years because of this affiliation but never wavers in the face of it all.2007 marked the 20 year anniversary of the south park coalition and all the members meet every September for the annual \'s.p.c. weekend\' where all the members meet for one big concert to show appreciation to the people who made this organization what it is.he also is known for being very down to earth and very interactive with his fans often communicating with them via his website www.southparkcoalition.com and myspace.com/spckrino He attributes all that he has to his GOD and is constantly looking for ways to get better as a person and as an aritst.
