Persepolis Suite for Orchestra & Choir
In 1972, on a commission from the Ministry of Culture of Iran. Tjeknavorian composed the music for the "Sound & Light" show in Persepolis for the occasion of the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire founded by King Cyrus. The first performance took place in 1972 at Persepolis in the presence of many heads of states from around the world. The music was recorded by a Paris recording orchestra and choir in Paris, conducted by composer. The recording was released by Philips Records in France.
Straussiana, for orchestra
Composed in 1996, in the memory of Johan Strauss, Straussiana was written in the form of Viennese Waltz, based on Tjekavorian’s own melodies, in the style of Johann Strauss. During his studies at the Vienna Muisc Academy (1954-61) Tjeknavorian was exposed to Strauss's music and was very fond of it. The first performance was given by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in 1996, conducted by composer.
Nostalgia for Piano and Orchestra
Tjeknavorian composed "Nostalgia" in 1997, in Yerevan, Armenia. The mood of the composition is influenced by jazz music. Tjeknavorian composed the piece on the occasion of his 60th birthday concert. The first performance took place in 1997 at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, in Yerevan, with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Aram Babakhanyan (piano), conducted by composer.
Love Song Suite
Tjeknavorian’s Love Song Suite was originally composed for soprano, tenor and orchestra in 1997. It was later arranged for orchestra alone. A version for strings and piano also exists.
