Lulu and the Lampshades are a folk band from Bristol, England. They are quirky and folk-poppy but overall they are fun. I will get back to them in a quick minute. So I have been back and forth and upside down in regards to my musical mood lately. Either I want to listen to hard pumping techno remixes, 90’s rap (e.g. 2pac and Notorious BIG), 50’s crooner music, dirty amazing rock (e.g. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Kills) or something else entirely. I mean I seriously sat down last night and listened to an entire DMX record…D…M…X. It is like I am completely bi-polar with music, but I suppose that is good because it allows me to discover something new each day. Today I was going through my regular search on Tumblr to find new tracks and came across Lulu and friends. The song I first listened to was “Cups”. I liked how it was sweet yet sassy. The song is about someone basically saying “bye, I am leaving and ain’t waiting for you” to an ex-lover, but in a really sweet folksy way that makes it seem less harsh somehow. So that ex-lover couldn’t be like “that *****! she sung a song about me that is going to last forever and it is about me not manning up and following”, instead said ex-lover is probably like “aww, damn I do miss her, her voice is so cute, I miss that.” Or something like that. At least that is how I would feel if I was said ex-lover. AND the song features HAND CLAPS. I am totally into hand claps.
