The record bears few traces of kitsch, instead favoring authentic textures and beats rooted in the musical traditions of Cuba, Trinidad and the Caymans--Baxter's feather-light touch is perfectly suited to such musical environs, and songs like "Deep Night," "Poinciana" and "Carnival" positively shimmer.
